Welcome to Sands Lodge, your serene escape nestled in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park.
A haven for families or groups, it’s a short stroll from the beach, blending coastal charm with natural beauty.
With ample parking, step into our oak-adorned retreat, where a welcoming hallway leads to an expansive, open-plan living area.
The state-of-the-art kitchen invites culinary creations, savoured around a grand 6-seater dining table (expandable to 8).
Relax on plush sofas for movie nights or slide open the patio doors to enjoy sunset toasts on the patio.
At day’s end, retreat to two king-sized rooms or a twin, complete with an en-suite and family bathroom.
Explore Runswick Bay or enjoy our gated enclave’s peace of mind.
Cherish the harmony of our neighbourhood and treat our lodge with care.
Sands Lodge isn’t just a stay; it’s where friendships bloom and memories are made.
Welcome home.
As our guests, you will undoubtedly be our friends, too. We hope you can relax and escape the trials and tribulations of everyday life in our little haven.
Where the Yorkshire Moors meet the sea, Runswick Bay and The Pines Lodge Park have everything you need, whether exploring the beaches, walking on the hilltops, or simply staying in with a movie and some board games.
Please feel free to use what is available in the lodge, including our board games, TV, Bluetooth speaker and amenities. This also includes all drinks, tea, coffee, or something stronger(!) - please add a donation in the honesty box where appropriate.
Finally, it goes without saying, but please respect our neighbours—they are our friends, and we would like to keep it that way!

For available dates to book and/or for any queries whilst you’re at the lodge, please call:
Nigel:

Christine:

If, for any reason, help is required whilst you’re on-site, we have people to call!
Pets:
Well-behaved dogs are welcome! There is a small extra charge per dog.
We kindly ask that you please ensure dogs are cleaned/hosed down (using the outdoor tap or laundry sink) after muddy walks and visits to the beach. All we ask is that you use your due diligence and please ensure you look after our furniture/furnishings - these are for people, first and foremost, and they are our loved furniture!
Directions:
Once you turn off the main road (A174), towards Runswick Bay, take the road for just under 1 mile before meeting a junction. The Runswick Bay Hotel will be opposite you.
Take a left turn for approx. 300 metres and look for the right turn into the Pines (beyond the turn, you will have exited the village and will just see a hedge-lined road).
Follow the single-track, tarmac road and continue to the end of the straight drive. Fork right, and our lodge will be directly in front of you when you pass through the security gates.
Google Maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZET6SbwR7zVF3t1bA
Gate:
Towards the end of the track, before you meet our lodge at the end, there is a gate that requires a code. The onsite team updates this code regularly, so once we know your arrival date, we will send you a message with the code for access.
The code is a 4-digit number, and when entering this on the keypad, follow it by the arrow button (e.g. 1 2 3 4 ⟵) The number will be provided ahead of your visit, of course!
Access:
There are a few steps up to the ‘front’ door of the lodge, next to the driveway, with a latched gate to secure the decking.
Wheelchair access is sadly not available.
The key safe is positioned at the top of the few steps into the lodge on the right pillar. The code for this, for your access to the lodge, will be provided in our communication before your stay.
Please ensure to return the key to the key safe upon your departure!
In case of fire:
Exit the lodge through the main door or French doors leading to the decking area at the front of the lodge. Get to a safe location and call 999.
Liability Insurance:
We have full public liability insurance on the lodge.
Gas Certificate:
It is with the essential items in the left-hand kitchen island drawer.
A few essential tools are available...
In the utility room's space underneath the boiler, you will find a few essential tools, such as a screwdriver and hammer.
You will also find other useful items you may require in the utility room's drawers and cupboards (Sellotape, etc.).
Extra Keys:
Two sets of keys are available in the left-hand kitchen island drawer. One set is for each set of French doors onto the decking, and another set is for the front door.
Security:
In an emergency, please dial 101/999 as you would at home. For support with any issues onsite (non-emergency), please contact Christine or Nigel with details, and we will get in touch with our contacts if needed.
Heating Controls:
The lodge's heating should be on when you visit, but rooms can be adjusted with radiator controls. An electric fire is also available in the lounge area, which is controlled using a small remote.
Walls:
Nothing must be hammered into the walls, inside or out.
There is protective skin on both the internal and external walls. Please do not nail anything anywhere!
EV Charging:
EV is charging in the Runswick Bay car park. None is available at the lodge, although a three-pin plug can be used with the outside socket.
Outside power:
A double socket can be found on the wall adjacent to the steps.
Water stop-tap cut-off:
Is under the kitchen sink.
Tides:
On the wall in the kitchen above the kettle is a tide clock. This tells you when the tides will be high and low, allowing you to plan when to walk on the beach. It does not tell you the time!
The clock is usually accurate, however there is also a useful App called ‘Tides near me’ which, when set to Whitby, is quite useful, especially if you’re out and about.
WiFi:
The WiFi network is: Three
The password can be found on a slip of paper in the left-hand top drawer of the kitchen island.
Shops:
There are many stores and shops in the area, although none in Runswick Bay.
The nearest small supermarket store is a Co-Op, 5 minutes drive away on the main road, north, towards Staithes.
Sainsbury’s offers home delivery. We recommend booking a ‘home delivery’ in advance of your stay for any groceries you might need.
Alternatively, Whitby has many supermarket brands available.
Waste and Recycling:
Bins are provided in the lodge in both bathrooms and the kitchen. Spare bin liners are provided in the top right-hand drawer on the island if required. Please take your rubbish to the waste location (to the right of the office, as you will see when exiting the lodge through the gate) as you leave.
Sadly, recycling is unavailable, and we take all our recycling home with us or drop it off at a local recycling site while we’re out and about. There is a useful one at Sainsbury’s in Whitby, where the local tip is.
What to do when leaving...
Please return the same key you got from the key safe to the key safe and ensure this is locked.
Please put all dirty towels in the bath, and pile the bedding used on each bed, thanks!

The beach is a beautiful place at all times of the year. Only a ten to fifteen minutes walk away, you can laze away an afternoon walking the length of the beach gathering driftwood, or simply dreaming!
As you might imagine, all types of weather happen in Runswick Bay! But we find that at any time you are at the lodge, there is something magical and tranquil about being there in any part of the year!

Parking in Whitby: There’s lots of parking available in Whitby, with a disc in some parts, or in paid car parks. Our favourite place to park is near the famous Whale Bone, on top of the cliff (near the Arnold Palmer Putting Course).
Public Transport: There is a very good bus service from the bottom of the drive into Whitby. The X4 runs almost every half an hour and takes around 22 minutes and is the most cost-effective option. Before setting off, make sure you know the time of the last bus back!
A taxi from Whitby to Runswick will cost typically between £20 - £25 and it takes around 15-20 minutes.

Parking can be very difficult in the village, especially at peak times, so walking to the beach is the preferred option for those able to do so. It is a steep walk down and back up, whichever way you go!
There’s a lovely cafe and some public toilets down at Runswick Bay. The cafe has a great selection of ice creams and hot drinks.
